Peru, IN - Ole Olsen Children's Theater will be performing their version of “The Sandlot” July 12-14 at 7 pm and July 15 at 2 pm in the Auditorium at Peru High School. Admission is $5 and reservations are not required.

"The Sandlot" is a movie released on April 7, 1993, depicting the shenanigans of a group of kids in 1962 that play baseball on an empty lot in their neighborhood. It contains drama and comedy along with real-life situations like being new to the area, making friends, problem-solving, and working together. It is a delightful and fun movie that did well at the box office and is still a favorite amongst many age levels.

The Ole Olsen version had to be adapted from the movie script to the stage. According to Director Stephanie Wagner, there wasn't a play version available. They did a fabulous job with that and you will not be disappointed. This is Stephanie's first full-length play with an intermission. To her credit, she has done an amazing job.

Auditions began in May. More than 40 children from Miami and surrounding counties participated. All The children were cast.  They range from 7-17 years of age. A few have dropped out, but most have remained, and their enthusiasm is obvious and, frankly, very contagious.

The props are many and the backdrop is gorgeous. Compliments for the backdrop go to Sarah Luginbill. It's huge and amazing, to say the least.

If you have the time to take in this play, do so. It's affordable and very entertaining. It's another showcase to the talents of the youth in our area.
