Peru, IN – A man from Beech Grover and a woman from Indianapolis are facing drug charges in Peru following a traffic stop conducted in the early morning hours on Friday, May 10, 2018.
According to Peru Police Department, Officer Jeremy Brindle conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of N. Broadway St. / Adams Ave. Brindle had observed the vehicle cross the center line and fail to make a complete stop at a stop sign which was the reason for the traffic stop.
While talking with the occupants of the vehicle, Officer Brindle detected the odor of marijuana.
Officer Smith who had arrived on the scene, collected the license information from the suspects while Officer Brindle utilized his K9 partner Darro to conduct a “free air sniff” around the vehicle. Darro’s behavior indicated the presence of drugs inside the suspect vehicle.
Both the driver and the passenger were removed from the vehicle and searched. As the female passenger exited the vehicle, Officer Brindle again detected the odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the car.
The driver was identified as Chad Wolfe, 37 of Beech Grove and the passenger was identified as Angela Pizano, 33 of Indianapolis.
A search of the vehicle resulted in Officers locating a pink and clear glass smoking device, two large bags of a green leafy substance that would later test positive for marijuana, two clear plastic bags that each contained a large crystal chunk, a digital scale and a clear plastic bag containing a crystal-like substance which would later test positive for methamphetamine. A plastic container inside the trunk was located and found to contain a plastic bag with a green leafy substance that would field test positive for marijuana along with $300.00 cash.
Inside Ms. Pizano’s purse, officers located three separate clear plastic bags containing a green leafy substance that would later test positive for marijuana, two clear plastic bags containing several blue pills that were identified as Xanax, and three clear plastic bags containing a brownish crystal-like substance that would later test positive for methamphetamine, one glass smoking device, one metal smoking device, two packages of rolling papers, two cut straws with a white residue inside and one glass smoking device with a blue tube on one end. Officers also located several empty clear plastic bags. Ms. Pizano was also carrying $814.00 in cash. When asked, she advised that she is not currently working.
When asked by Officer Brindle, Mr. Wolfe advised that he had approximately $1,000.00 cash on his person. Mr. Wolfe began to get verbally abusive with offices and was placed in the rear seat of a police vehicle.
In total, the marijuana seized was approximately 400 grams. There was also approximately 15 grams of methamphetamine seized along with a total of $1,532 from both suspects.
Chad Wolfe, 37 of Beech Grove was arrested on charges of Dealing Methamphetamine, Dealing Marijuana and Maintaining a Common Nuisance.
Angela Pizano, 33 of Indianapolis was arrested on charges of Dealing Methamphetamine, Dealing Marijuana, Dealing Controlled Substance and Possession of Paraphernalia.
Both were transported to the Miami County Jail without additional incident. Peru Police Department reports they will be filing to seize the cash recovered in this arrest.
All criminal suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
