Miami County – Today, at approximately 7:55 a.m., officers from the Indiana State Police and the Miami County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two-vehicle crash on Miami County Road 1000 North near Miami County Road 200 West, in which two men were severely injured.

The preliminary crash investigation by Indiana State Police Sergeant Rick Brown revealed that Kevin Hoffman, 22, Mexico, IN was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Malibu westbound on Miami County Road 1000 North, near Miami County Road 200 West. Hoffman attempted to pass a dump truck and traveled into the eastbound lane. The Chevrolet then struck, nearly head-on, an eastbound Ford Escape, driven Michael Donaldson, 51, Deedsville, IN.

Hoffman and Donaldson were transported, via ambulance, to a Ft Wayne hospital. Hoffman sustained life-threatening injuries. At last check, Donaldson was in surgery with multiple broken bones.

This is an ongoing investigation, but at this time neither the use of alcohol nor narcotics is suspected as having contributed to this crash.

Sergeant Brown was assisted at the crash scene by ISP Lieutenant Brad Weaver, Senior Trooper Josh Tarrh, Trooper Adam Moor, the Mexico and Denver Fire Departments, Duke Hospital EMS, and the Miami County Sheriff’s Departments.
