Macy, IN – Last night at approximately 10:58 p.m., Miami County Sheriff’s Department Deputies responded to a report of a burglary in progress. Upon arrival, deputies were able to locate and arrest a subject named Brant Owen on two separate arrest warrants.

A second subject, Jess Sampson, who reportedly resides in the home that deputies were dispatched to is wanted on multiple felony warrants.

Sheriff Tim Miller today announced the 39th Annual Indiana Sheriff’s Association Youth Leadership Camp will be held in June and July again this year. There will be two camp sessions this year, the first session will be held June 26-29 at Pine Creek Camp in Pine Village, Indiana (Warren County) serving the northern part of the state. The second session will be held July 9-11 serving the southern part of the state at Waycross Episcopal Camp in Morgantown, Indiana (Brown County).

Miami County, IN - The Miami County Farm Bureau held a public forum for the Miami County Sheriff Candidates on Monday evening at the 4-H Fairgrounds Community Building. Republican candidates Gary Glassburn, Rick Brown, Tim Hunter, Ed Graber along with independent candidate Mike Meeks participated in the forum which was moderated by Greg Siefert.

The program began with each candidate introducing themselves followed by a question and answer period. During their introduction, each candidate cited their Miami County roots and experience to lead the Sheriff’s Department.

The rules were then explained to the audience and the candidates. Prior to the forum, each candidate as given a list of possible sixteen questions. The Miami County Farm Bureau Board of Directors then chose six of those questions to be asked of each candidate at the forum. Each candidate was given three minutes to answer the question and no interaction between candidates and the audience was allowed.

Miami County Sheriff Tim Miller announced today that the Indiana Sheriffs' Association will again be awarding college scholarships to qualified Miami County high school seniors or college students who are pursuing a degree in criminal justice studies. There will be approximately 40-$500 scholarships awarded to qualifying students throughout the state.

The Indiana Sheriffs' Association Scholarship Fund was established for the purpose of receiving, investing and dispensing of funds to provide college scholarships to qualified students who are committed to pursuing an education and career in the law enforcement field.

The Miami County Sheriff’s Office is joining more than 230 local law-enforcement agencies across the state to spot violations to Indiana’s seat belt and impaired driving laws. Through the weekend after Thanksgiving, expect to see an increase in random patrols, saturation patrols, and checkpoints. This overtime enforcement is supported by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) funds administered by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI).

Miami County Sheriff's Department, Indiana State Police, Dukes EMS, Peru Fire and Pipe Creek Fire Departments responded to the area of CR 200 W and CR 400 S for a single vehicle crash Monday evening.
