1:27 a.m. A report of a runaway juvenile in the 10000 block of S. Walnut St., Amboy. The juvenile was located and returned to a guardian. A report will be forwarded to probation.
1:58 a.m. A deputy conducted a transport from Dukes Memorial Hospital.
6:30 a.m. Traffic accident with damage in the area of W. 1500 N. / N. 100 W., Akron. Chad Ostler, 50 of Michigantown was eastbound on CR 1500 N. near CR 100 W. when he struck a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported.
Peru, IN – A routine traffic stop on Monday ended with a brief foot chase and arrest of a Peru Man on charges of Possession of Methamphetamine and Resisting Law Enforcement (Fleeing) on Monday, July 9, 2018.
According to a Peru Police Department probable cause affidavit obtained from the Miami County Prosecutor’s Office, PPD Officer Keith Smith was traveling east on 7th Street in a marked police vehicle approaching N. Broadway at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Monday, July 9, 2018. Smith was en-route to a call of a possible breaking and entering of an abandoned residence. Miami County Central Dispatch had advised of a possible suspect in the break-in described as a white male wearing a gray shirt. Smith’s report indicated at least two subjects in the vehicle he was following matched the description given. Smith continued to follow the vehicle as other PPD Units responded to the reported breaking and entering call.
While behind the suspect vehicle, Smith observed it make a left turn to travel north on Broadway without signaling. Smith initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle on Daniel Street, just north of Broadway. After speaking with the female driver and three male passengers, Smith contacted PPD Sergeant Raber and requested her assistance at the stop.

2:17 a.m. A report of a suspicious person/circumstance in the area of N. Union St. / W. 7th St. Several subjects walking in an alley. Two of the subjects were adults. The subjects were advised to get home.
3:31 a.m. Traffic stop in the 10 block of N. Broadway St. Warning issued.

12:11 a.m. A report of a suspicious person/circumstance at the Skyview Motel on S. Business 31, Peru. This call was handled by the Indiana State Police.
12:15 a.m. A report of an intoxicated female in the 100 block of S. Main St., Amboy. The woman had a friend with her who stated he would keep an eye on her.
1:18 a.m. Citizen assistance in the 600 block of E. 1500 N., Macy. A deputy spoke with a citizen over the phone who had questions regarding child custody. Assistance was given.
Peru, IN - Ole Olsen Children's Theater will be performing their version of “The Sandlot” July 12-14 at 7 pm and July 15 at 2 pm in the Auditorium at Peru High School. Admission is $5 and reservations are not required.
"The Sandlot" is a movie released on April 7, 1993, depicting the shenanigans of a group of kids in 1962 that play baseball on an empty lot in their neighborhood. It contains drama and comedy along with real-life situations like being new to the area, making friends, problem-solving, and working together. It is a delightful and fun movie that did well at the box office and is still a favorite amongst many age levels.
