Peru, IN – The Peru Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session on Tuesday, March 19, 2019, in the City Council Chambers of the Peru City Building.
In this meeting, the Board of Works approved the creation of a sidewalk program in the City of Peru. Under this program, the City will remove the old sidewalk and then help pay for the replacement of the sidewalk in front of a resident’s property. The resident would need to use a licensed contractor to replace the sidewalk.
The amount of the grant is capped at $500, which is approximately half the cost of replacing a frontage sidewalk.
Under the program, the sidewalk would have to meet American’s With Disabilities standards. The budget for this year is $35,000 and will be issued on a first come, first served basis.
The Board also approved a temporary reduction of the speed limit on North Mexico Road to 20 MPH due to the condition of the road. The limit will remain in place until the repaving work starts this spring. A hazardous road sign has been placed at the roadway. This will be the first road to be done when weather permits.
